Take Control of Your Subconscious Mind!

by Keli Henault, PhD LMSW, MHT (2/08)

Have you ever tried to change a habit pattern, or to become more self-motivated without success? You may be surprised to find out that the reason why it's so difficult to make personal changes has nothing to do with your analytical, logical conscious mind. It has nothing to do with willpower. It does, however, have everything to do with the fact that your subconscious mind is resisting!

Habit-control seminars and motivation programs attract millions of dollars every year. People investing in these programs frequently feel frustrated when they find themselves unable to apply what obviously works for others. The frustration is then generally turned inward and the person begins to beat up on their self.

So why does willpower seem insufficient for overcoming undesired habits? It's because the acceptance of any new habit pattern requires that the subconscious and conscious mind cooperate completely, otherwise subconscious belief in failure overpowers the desire for change. Whenever the conscious and subconscious are in conflict, the subconscious always wins! In other words, imagination (subconscious) wins over logic (conscious). Professionals refer to this concept as the law of conflict.

Habits are controlled by the subconscious (often called right brain) rather than by the conscious mind (often called the left brain). The key to effective habit change is to motivate the subconscious in order to overcome subconscious resistance.

All your current habits, mannerisms, and thought patterns are the result of past programming of your subconscious mind by a variety of sources such as parents, teachers, preachers, peers, coworkers, and television. If you've ever attempted to change undesired habits by using self-discipline or willpower, I'm sure you quickly learned that logic eventually loses out against the "war" with imagination.

For example, smokers who try to quit still imagine the taste or smell of cigarettes; they imagine how relaxed they'd be if they had just one puff of a cigarette. Dieters imagine how good their favorite junk food would taste. In both cases, the individual backslides into the old habits. The same thing goes for people who try to attain new goals.

So how do we get the subconscious mind and the conscious mind on the same page so that permanent change can be achieved? By reprogramming the subconscious mind through the use of hypnotherapy!

Remember that hypnosis is not mind control and the person being hypnotized must want to be hypnotized. They must also be open to accepting the suggestions that will allow them to easily change a habit, belief, or behavior.

Hypnotherapy works and is extremely effective and efficient and is therefore, short-term therapy with "big-time" results. You'll be surprised, how after a few hypnotherapy sessions, you're able to achieve leaps and bounds in your professional and personal life.

Hypnotherapy, when done correctly, has been proven to help people stop smoking, lose weight, improve memory, concentration, self-esteem, confidence, sales ability, public speaking, relationships, mood, and procrastination; as well as help people to minimize anxiety, and end habits and addictions.
